August 2011 – present — Energy Risk Reporter
Write feature articles and news stories on the energy and commodity markets, with a strong focus on risk management.

2010-present — Freelance Multimedia Journalist
- Nov. 2010 – Produced short radio documentary aired on CBC national radio network programme “Dispatches”.
- Oct. 2010 – Covered Bosnia’s national elections for nationally-distributed Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail. Created multimedia blog Sarajevo September reporting on the country leading up to the elections.
- July 2010 – Multiple stories for CBC Radio programme Island Morning in Prince Edward Island, Canada.

February 2011-June 2011 — Credit Magazine, Freelance/Temp Editorial Assistant
Wrote articles on international credit markets (focused on the buy side) for Credit’s magazine and website. Produced video interview for website. Helped carry out survey for annual European Credit Awards.

July-August 2009 — Reporter/Producer, CBC Compass, Charlottetown, PEI
Worked as a general news reporter/producer: gathered AVO clips, non-linear editing, pitched story ideas, wrote copy for anchor.

August 2009 — Freelance VJ, VJ I AM TV (www.vjiam.tv) – So Media Network
Produced VJ piece on College of Piping and the Celtic Arts – contributed pitch, hosting, shooting, and rough-cut editing.

January 2008-December 2008  — Writer, Firefox News
Wrote weekly/biweekly reviews of television series “Supernatural” Series Reviewer, regular contributor to general news section for Firefox News, a science fiction and fantasy news service (www.firefox.org)

Summer 2008 — Freelance Contributor for The Buzz, Prince Edward Island Monthly Arts Newspaper
Attended theatre productions, including opening night, interviewed performers and wrote reviews of plays.

Summer 2008, 2009 — Communications Student, Prince Edward Island National Park, Parks Canada, PEI
Filmed, edited and produced 5 minute documentary on archaeological dig in Greenwich National Park.Wrote clear, concise press releases, aided in developing public relations material (eg. informational bookmarks) and innovative programs to promote Parks Canada’s mandate. Cleaned up website, and developed multimedia content for future use on site.  Attained level BBB in government bilingualism tests.

Completed picture research for summer 2011 issue. Wrote front of book articles, helped in sub-editing for summer 2011 issue.

January 2011 — BBC World Service/Public Radio International – The World
Researched/chased and booked potential guests for programme. Researched potential story ideas and wrote up pitches for daily news broadcast. Helped BBC editors to understand the use of social media networks (twitter, facebook) in news media.

Nov-Dec 2010 — BBC World Service – The Forum
Researched/chased and booked potential guests for programme. Wrote information briefs for guests and presenter. Aided in updating and improving social media networks (twitter, facebook). Researched potential story ideas and wrote up pitches for upcoming outside broadcast programme in Galle, Sri Lanka.

    Skills

    Technical Skills: Shooting video in HD, non-linear editing for broadcast or web on Avid, Final Cut Pro/Final Cut Express. Photoshop for photo editing (web/multimedia). Sound editing for web or podcast with Audacity, and for radio broadcast with Adobe Audition, Dalet. Rivendell Radio System for producing live radio shows. Soundslides Plus and Adobe Flash for slideshows and multimedia web presentations. Basic knowledge of InDesign, AfterEffects.

    Web skills: Excellent internet research skills, used on a daily basis. CMS using WordPress to create websites. Blogging experience with WordPress, twitter, blogger, livejournal. Intermediate knowledge of HTML and CSS for website creation. Extensive knowledge and experience in Web 2.0 platforms and social networks (blogs, twitter, viral marketing, delicious.com, digg, etc.)

    Admin/IT Skills: Proficient at Microsoft Office applications, able to create databases and use Power Point for presentations
